What Is a Hapé Ceremony?

Hapé (pronounced ha-PEH, also spelled rapé) is a ceremonial Amazonian snuff made from powdered Nicotiana rustica tobacco and the ash of specific Amazonian trees. What the Ceremony Includes

A hapé ceremony is not simply the act of applying hapé. It is a structured, intentional session that includes:

• Opening prayer and intention-setting

• Preparation of the space with smudging and sacred tobacco

• Hapé served by your facilitator with a tepi (server pipe), one nostril and then the other

• Quiet time to sit afterward

• Gentle guidance and support from your facilitator

• A closing integration conversation

What to Expect

Hapé acts quickly. Within seconds, you may feel a strong rushing sensation, pressure behind the eyes, watering eyes, a runny nose, and then a period of stillness. Every person's experience is different. Some people feel calm and focused, some feel emotional, and some experience nausea or vomiting, which is common. Your facilitator stays with you and supports you through whatever arises.

Who This Ceremony Is For

Our ceremonies are for adults who want to experience hapé in a guided, respectful setting, including:

• First-timers who would like to try hapé with an experienced facilitator rather than on their own

• Returning practitioners who want to deepen their practice or be served with a tepi

• Small groups of friends or circles (up to 8) who want to share a ceremony together

Hapé contains nicotine and is not suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a heart condition or high blood pressure, are sensitive to nicotine, or have other significant health concerns, please contact us before booking.

Ceremonies are held in person at our Old Town Spring location. We welcome guests from across the Greater Houston area, including Houston, The Woodlands, Conroe, Tomball, Cypress, Katy, and Spring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience with hapé to book a ceremony?

What should I do before the session?

Eat lightly beforehand (not a heavy meal). Avoid alcohol the night before. Wear comfortable clothing. Come with an open intention, even if that intention is simply curiosity.

Is hapé safe?

Hapé is not a psychedelic and does not produce visions. It is a tobacco product that contains nicotine, and it causes strong short-term physical reactions. Individual responses vary, so if you have significant health concerns, contact us before booking. This is not medical advice.

Can I choose my hapé blend?

Yes. Your facilitator may suggest a blend based on your intention, and you are welcome to choose from our in-store selection of 65+ varieties before the ceremony. You can also browse blends online in our Hapé Apothecary.
