"What is Hapé (Rapéh)?
Hapé (also spelled Rapé and pronounced ha-peh) is a sacred Amazonian snuff used ceremonially by Indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest, particularly in Brazil and Peru. It is a finely powdered blend of sacred jungle plants, tree ashes, and most importantly, Mapacho — a powerful jungle tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) known for its deep spiritual significance. Traditionally, Hapé is blown into each nostril using a pipe made from bamboo or bone. There are two types of applicators:
